WHAT TO DO BEFORE BOTOX INJECTIONS OR AFTER BOTOX INJECTIONS

There are many people that ask me what they should do before botox injections, and after their Botox or cosmetic filler treatment. I have compiled a list of the major points. If you can follow these basics, you should be good to go! There are even more details here, if you’re a nerd like me and just like a lot of information.

BEFORE BOTOX INJECTIONS

You’ve done your research, found an advanced level cosmetic injector, and and set up your first Botox appointment. There are three super important things to know & avoid before you get a botox treatment.

Avoid Alcohol
A few glasses of wine throughout the week or even a few drinks shouldn’t affect the results of your Botox treatment, but it is still best practive to not indulge a few days before. Alcohol thins the blood, and can contribute to bruising.

Blood Thinners & Certain Vitamins
Again, this can lead to bruising. There are ACTUAL blood thinners like coumadin, but hidden blood thinners such as: NSAIDS like Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Ibuprofen and Naproxen. You also want to avoid taking supplements & vitamins that contain vitamin E, fish oil, garlic and St. Johns Wart.

If You’re Pregnant or Breastfeeding, No way Jose.
If you’re pregnant (or think you are) or breast-feeding, I cannot treat you. There has never been a proven study that says getting Botox can harm your unborn baby or can pass through breast milk, but that is probably because no one wants to test a pregnant woman! There may be some medspas that will treat you, but I will not. It is better to err on the side of caution and not chance it.

BEFORE BOTOXAFTER BOTOX INJECTIONS

It’s okay to wash your face, make facial expressions and even put on makeup when you leave my office. These next few things I have listed are a no-no:

No Laying Down
No naps for 4 hours. If you absolutely HAVE to lay down, make sure that your head is slightly elevated.

Cardio & Working Out
No working out for 24 hours. That’s right, you heard me. I’m ordering you to sit on the couch and watch a movie. Really though, the Botox needs time to do it’s job, and speeding up your metabolism isn’t helping.

Massaging the Injection Site
Just keep your grubby hands off of it. There is no need to massage anything, make repetitive expressions etc. I have placed the Botox exactly where it needs to go, so no help is needed.
